Duo Pleyel
Richard Egarr & Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya
Named after their 1848 Pleyel piano, keyboardists Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya and Richard Egarr perform together as Duo Pleyel. Equally at home on modern and historical instruments, the duo explores a wide repertoire for piano four hands and two pianos, from the earliest music by J. C. Bach and Mozart and lesser-known early Romantics such as Hummel and Dussek, through to the great works of Schubert, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky. Their acclaimed discography with LINN/Outhere will be expanded in 2027 with a landmark project: the first complete recording of Beethoven’s symphonies in the remarkable four-hand transcriptions by Beethoven’s student and musical witness, Carl Czerny.
Their recording Yuletide Treats was BBC Music Magazine’s Instrumental Recording of the Month in December 2024, described as “piano treats that go straight to the heart”. Duo Pleyel is performing regularly on several of the magnificent 19th-century instruments of the Chris Maene Piano Collection. The duo also presents the delicious programme C’est l’extase together with Slovenian mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj, featuring works by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel and Mahler.
